Abate 4W Labor Day Bike Show at Fat Cat's

9/5 by SportsterJohn.  I hit the Labor Day bike show at Fat Cats this weekend.  It was put on by ABATE district 4W.  I had been to a few other events at Fat Cats as well as a few other ABATE events around Cobb County.  This one was a bit of a disappointment for me.  It seemed much less attended than the other events I went to hosted by Abate or held at Fat Cats.  Don't know why, perhaps it was due to the fact that there was other stuff going on this holiday weekend or word didn't get out.

Since I had pretty much ignored the OL all weekend,  I decided to wait till she got home from work before heading down to Fat Cats.  The weather was perfect and for me, Fat Cats is only a 15 min putt.  We got there about 3:30 and noticed that the crowd was a bit thinner than expected.  I am guessing that there were maybe 150 people there.

I went up to the ABATE booth and talked to Rod for a few minutes.  He told me that this was the 3rd or 4th year that the district has sponsored a labor day show but that the location has changed for each one.

After getting the scoop from Rod and seeing what was happening, I decided to take some pics of some of the bikes in the bike show.  There were some real nice bikes.

While I was looking at the bikes, I could hear JB Walker and the Cheap Whiskey Band playing inside the bar so the OL and I headed inside to see what was happening.  I ran into my friend Jerry, who I had known for about 5 or so years.

Don't let the ugliness fool you, he really is harmless.  The people inside seemed to be pretty well lubricated and everyone seemed to be having a good time while the organizers were giving out door prizes and trophies.

Someone was kind enough to give the OL a bunch of door prize tickets.  We actually won something.  Now it wasn't anything that we really want or need but it was something.  I won't mention what the prize was because I may end up having to use it as an x-mas present if my finances don't improve!  I will say though that Greg had his crew working hard and did take good care of the customers.  If you had never been to Fat Cats, I suggest you check the place out.  Greg is a good host and they are pretty supportive of the biker community.   The only thing that bothered me was that the local cops (Austell) seemed to know exactly when the main events were ending.  I did notice a few off duty? cops among the crowd.  As the wife and I were pulling out of the parking lot.  I saw 3 Austell police cruisers setting themselves up in parking lots right down the street in both directions.  Perhaps someone inside told them it was time to set up?   I am sure you don't need to be reminded but I am reminding you all anyhow, when you go to these events expect the Leos to be waiting right down the street.
