US Rider News Reunion Run 06

Review by SportsterJohn  6/06

US Rider News magazine held their 6th annual reunion over over the past weekend.   This was a three day party complete with bands, a bike show, games, poker run, vendors and other events.  Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the entire weekend but I did get a good feel for the rally during the few hours I was there on sat afternoon.  I would like to give Kudos for the staff of US Rider News as well as the business and people of the town of Helen.  It is nice to go to an event in a town that hangs welcome banners instead of sending out the local Gestapo when bikers roll into town. Speaking of Gestapo, there was a surprisingly light LEO presence during this event.  We left Marietta about 2:30 sat afternoon and blasted up 400 till it ended in Long Branch.  From there, we took 115 up to Cleveland.  115 is a nice little 2 lane through hilly farm country.  When we got to Cleveland, we jumped on 75 and cruised into Helen.  For those of you who haven't been there before, Helen is a tourist town with a Bavarian theme.  Having lived in Germany before, I can tell you it's not real authentic but it is a pretty town.  Helen is also a biker friendly town which usually has something going on.  The only downside of the town is that things can be pretty expensive!  For example, we paid near $25 for a cheese burger and Philly Cheese Steak. We ended up getting to the city park where the rally was held about 4:30 and did a quick tour of the area to get a feel for what was going on.  There were about two dozen venders and I was pretty impressed with the prices.  I stopped in a booth to get two of the snaps on my Colors replaced and was only charged $5.  Not a bad deal at all.

After checking out all the venders, I stopped by the main registration tent to get info about the schedule of events and to talk to some of the staff.  I had talked to Yank, the Ga. editor a few times via e-mail about various web related stuff but had never met the guy.  Yank, invited me into the staff area for a while and we talked for bit about the magazine, this site and other motojournalism stuff.  Was nice to finally put a face to the name.  About this time, the bike show was just finishing.  I am not sure

who won but I think that the below bike was one of the prize winners.    There were a lot of 'custom' choppers around.  They don't really impress me though as most people who have them are more into profiling than riding.  The one below looks as if it was created out of a real bike and not a prefab chopper kit.

After the bike show it was time for the bike games.  They started with the slow race.  Usually I participate in slow races but I was busy taking pictures and was too lazy to walk the 200' to where my bike was parked. After the slow race was over, they had an event called the Alabama panty race.  Of course that is what we call it here.  I am sure that in Alabama, they call it the Georgia or Mississippi panty race.  The main purpose of this event though it seems is to get guys to wear girls underwear.  Thank God, none of the guys wore any of these though!  That definitely would not have been a good thing.

Ladies though, if you have any pics of you wearing any of these, feel free to send them to me! Anyhow, watching full grown men trying to put on pairs of panties is entertaining enough, just  ask thong boy .

By the time the games were over it was getting close to 7:00pm.  Since Linnea had to go into work at midnight, we decided to grab a quick bite to eat and then head home.  All in all, we had a real good time and again would like to thank the people at US Rider News for making us feel welcome and for hosting a great event.  Next year I will try to make the entire weekend!
